Education workgroup
The Education workgroup brings ideas together with real ways to act, and is the right choice for anyone who cares about education. Its members greatly want medical students to become even better doctors than they would by simply completing the curriculum the faculty sets for them.
In recent years the group has been marked by trainings and seminars whose places fill within minutes. Students themselves understand very well which skills and knowledge the curriculum leaves short, and the Education workgroup has found those gaps and set about improving matters.
Practical clinical trainings are an important part. To feel more confident starting work in a hospital as an auxiliary nurse or assistant doctor, the group lets you practise peripheral vein cannulation, suturing and applying a cast. Hospital visits to discover placement and job opportunities, the traditional residency evenings and the general/assistant doctor survival courses are popular among students, and taking part in them has become part of growing into a doctor in Estonia.

Major events
The White Coat Run
The White Coat Run is a good chance to gather friends from school or work and spend an afternoon orienteering around Tartu while solving tasks that test you in all sorts of ways. It has become good practice to make the team a striking costume, to win the prize for creative dress. The event is organised jointly by the Education, Sports and Science workgroups.
A control point may hold something sporty — an obstacle course carrying a bedpan full of water — or a challenge that airs out the brain instead, drawing on first-year anatomy. It is certainly one of the anticipated and enjoyable events of spring, a chance to spend time with good people and top up your medical knowledge.
Visit to Kuressaare hospital
Every autumn we travel for two days to Kuressaare hospital. The visit is always lively and exciting: there are practical workshops and time to enjoy the company of other medical students. In confidence, for more than a few students the Kuressaare visit is the most anticipated event in the Society, and going every year becomes a tradition of its own.
Workshop topics are always varied, so there is something new for a first-year and for a senior student alike. In the past we have improved our suturing, played ophthalmologist and tried their fascinating equipment, worked through scenarios in the emergency department, and much more. After a busy day at the hospital there is always the traditional dinner and free time in Kuressaare. We drive back towards Tartu only the next day, so everyone has time to enjoy the town and, if needed, catch up on lost sleep on the bus.
